Compton Abbas Dorset

I’d heard great thing about Compton Abbas and seen some great photos on social media.

  • Situated near Shaftesbury in Dorset Compton Abbas airfield is considerably different to the usual spotting trips to Heathrow. Arriving at the Airfield there is plenty of free parking within touching distancing of a host of vintage aircraft and helicopters. Compton Abbas has a wonderful cafe with views of the airfield both inside and out on the patio area. The spotting was like stepping back in time with Tiger moths and piper Cubs the highlights of my particular visit. It’s worth noting you can book flight experiences to enjoy a trip in some of these classics. Back inside there was a gift shop with both souvenirs of your trip and aircraft maintenance pieces such as oil etc, for somewhere that is free to get in I’d imagine just how good it would be to visit on a nice summers day. rather than the freezing cold November day I went !

  • Despite being in the midst of a pandemic the staff I encountered were warm and friendly as were the members including one guy who asked me to photograph his take off and landing. If you ever find yourself in Dorset it’s well worth a visit to this little gem
