on a nice sunny Saturday in late April I made my 1st trip to Heathrow in 6 months, I was slightly nervous as the aircraft were landing on 09L and I had no knowledge of good spotting locations for that runway, having scouted the internet and asked resident Heathrow spotters I had a couple of locations but they both said security may had moved me on !!! I spent ages on google earth trying to find a suitable spot before discovering a gate that seemed to lead to a large field. I set off from Bournemouth at just gone 7am making very good time I parked for free just outside the M25 and walked in hope that the gate led to somewhere I could go ! The field turned out to be a massive nature reserve and I could comfortably get in a position to have the sun behind me ! The 1st arrival was a Loganair which I missed as I was setting up, but soon after was treated to a Air Canada B787 before the action really started including a B747. The new spot could well be my new favourite spot at Heathrow it was peaceful between aircraft with only one other spotter to be seen ! The range of seeing the aircraft was massive Windsor all the way to touch down and the wind direction also meant there was the occasional smell of aviation fuel ! It was possible to forget you were anywhere near one of the major airports in the world in the moments of quiet ! Getting back to my car and the drive back to the M25 was so much easier than leaving the car at Hatton Cross
